Sailing Program Coordinator  (Full-time Summer Job)

Ideal full-time summer position for college student with an interest in teaching natural sciences and environmental/marine science topics with some experience in sailing and boating.

Ipswich Junior Sailing (IJS) operates an eight week summer sailing and racing program for children 8-15 years old at the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club located on Great Neck, Ipswich, MA. The primary focus of the program is to instill an appreciation and enjoyment for sailing and safe boating, while having fun. This is both an on-water and on-land program. This position is responsible for working with the on-water Program Co-Directors in the overall administration of the IJS program and the implementing the land-based curriculum described at

We are seeking a person who is interested in a full-time summer leadership position to provide land-based administration of the on-water youth sailing program and instruction and coordination to the IJS land-based teaching of STEM and marine and sailing topics to sailors in the program under the curriculum.

The position is full-time for a total of about 30-40 hours per week during eight-week summer program. There is flexibility in the schedule but the ideal work times are Monday through Thursday 9:00am to 4:00pm, occasionally on Fridays.

The position will begin on June 22nd and end on August 21st with July 4th as an unpaid holiday. There will be some hours during the week of June 15. You will report to the President of IJS and work in close coordination with the on-water Program Co-Directors. Based on the background, skills and requirements of applicant, the hourly compensation range will be up to $___/hr.



  • Work with the on-water Program Co-Directors to provide land-based administration of the on-water youth sailing program and US Sailing instructor certification program e.g., (i) keeping attendance lists, (ii) assuring registrations and administration of youth sailor are completed, (iii) supporting equipment purchases and regatta scheduling and preparation, (iv) assisting the Program Co-Directors in communications with parents, and (v) assisting in communication with sailing staff and IJS board of directors and operation of the program generally.
  • Work with instructors to create and implement lesson plans within the curriculum.
  • Works with instructors to plan and offer the curriculum and prepare learning materials to be offered each week. Oversee the instruction and coach the instructors. Entertain feedback from parents and IJS board members and science advisors/teachers.
  • Management of sailors record of accomplishments (i.e. Red Books)

Skill Required: Demonstrated ability to implement the curriculum with kids ages roughly 8-15 years. Show mature judgment and effective communications skills with parents. Be proficiency and comfortable using email, text, Word and Excel documents, forms and spreadsheets and attendance sheets. And look to enjoying a fun work experience in a lively organization located on the Ipswich coastline. Some experience with sailing and boating is useful but not required.
